Acolyte Ten Commandments

ACOLYTE TEN COMMANDMENTS

1.              Look at Acolyte schedule. Mark down your Sundays.  Be responsible.  Be a leader.

2.              Make any needed substitutions as far in advance as possible.  Email (swrightz@bellsouth.net) or call Steve Wright (704-948-9077) to notify him of any substitutions or changes made to the schedule.

3.              Be at Acolyte vestment room 15 minutes before your scheduled service:

·         8:15 a.m. for   8:30 a.m. service

·      10:15 a.m. for 10:30 a.m. service

4.              Wear appropriate shoes or sandals (i.e., no flip flops).  Wear your robe so that it touches your shoes.  Wear your trainee cross or Order of St. Mark’s cross proudly.

5.              Be reverent. Have an attitude of servitude.

6.              Actively participate in the entire service.  Pay attention during all of the service including the sermon.

7.              Be a helpful team member.  Watch your rector, clergy and LEMs for special instructions.  Be ready to help the clergy and one another.  Be flexible and responsive in any situation, which may arise.

8.              No unnecessary talking or movement when you are in the church.

9.              Assure candles are lit 10 minutes before every service at the latest.  Be aware of which candles are lit for each service and the order in which to light them.

10.           Crucifers and Candle Bearers Do Not bow their heads as they enter or exit the altar rail.  They remain erect as they carry the cross and torches.  What they carry symbolizes reverence.
